“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Introduction (top)
Glenunga Uniting Church is on a remarkable journey. It is a journey that Christ began in us when He established this church over eighty years ago. It has involved many blessed moments along the way, and it continues today.
First things first – our vision (top)
“Alive in Christ; growing in the power of the Spirit; serving the community”
It is out of this statement that we seek to act to build the church. The council believes that what is proposed will show that we are indeed alive in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and that we are engaging the community and seeking to serve them. We believe that the proposals take us much further toward fulfilling this vision than do our current practices. In other words, not only are they consistent with the vision, but they enhance it.
Our purposes (top)
We seek to be a balanced and health expression of the Kindom of God across our community, committed to positive expressions of worship, care, evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship for all ages and in as many ways and situations as God makes possible.
Worship:
The church first and foremost is a local expression of the church founded by Jesus Christ. It owes its allegiance to Him, and seeks to honour Him in worship, to care for His people and to serve Him in the world. In responding to God’s love through its worship, our church seeks to honour Him with services that are uplifting for His people and that build or refresh their faith, hope and love.
Evangelism:
The church seeks, in everything it does, to help people to discover Jesus as their personal Saviour and Lord, and to do nothing that would inhibit them in finding Him. It further seeks to have the needs of unbelievers high on every agenda and to actively undertake programs that will help people discover Christ.
Discipleship:
The church seeks to help all who belong to constantly deepen their relationship with God and mature in faith. We seek to foster this through frequent personal Bible Study and prayer, and the promotion of group activities including appropriate seminars and wider-church teaching events.
Fellowship:
The church seeks to welcome all who come and to help them experience the deep fellowship and joy found when the Holy Spirit dwells in believers.
Shared Ministry:
The church values highly the gifts given by God to every member of the body of Christ, and seeks to use those to bless all as we minister to each other’s needs through prayer and practical help.
