Sunday Morning Worship

By far the biggest and most visible activity of the church is Sunday morning worship, which starts at 10am.

Exactly how worship is conducted is strangely one of the biggest variations in church practice. At Glenunga, we don’t do that much different from the norm. We will sing songs (a few hymns, and a few ‘contemporary’ songs). We will listen to a sermon, and a children’s talk. And the announcements. Every month we have communion, and it’s nice to kneel and be ‘ministered to’ up the front for this. Participation in the service is encouraged (it’s even rostered if you don’t look out!).

There is a créche for the smaller kids. The ‘big kids’ go out during the sermon to KFC.

There are no hard pews at Glenunga! Seating is comfortable, and heaters and air conditioning keep us at about the right temperature.

There is room for the unexpected – the service is our church ‘being’ together. It’s not a performance by the ‘ministry team’. There is a friendly, easy-going-ness about our meetings, which boils over into morning tea afterwards. Our aim is to honour our Lord Jesus, and to remind ourselves of what is true and good.

After the service, two elders (one representing each gender) are available to pray privately with you, if you would like prayer for some special need. (Of course, you can pray with anyone you feel comfortable with! But the elders have a particular responsibility to respect your privacy.)

If you want to get a good taste of our church, this is a good event to come along to. You can just turn up. But if you like, you can also let Don know that you’re coming, and he’ll redundantly arrange that someone talks to you.

A Special Note About ‘The Offering’

It’s long been the custom of Christian churches to support their various activities, their minister, and other Christian missions by ‘passing round the hat’ every week. We will of course do this in our Sunday service, but please don’t feel obliged if you’re just visiting us, or if you don’t know how the money is being used.
