A Christian parent aspires to bring up their child to know Jesus, just as much as they aspire for them to grow up healthy, prosperous and wise. To express this, they sometimes wish to dedicate their child to God.
We of course are thrilled by this, and love to give these parents an opportunity to make this dedication publicly, and to pray for their child.
This is not the same as baptism, where a mature decision to follow Jesus has been made – in this case, the intention comes from the parents, rather than the child. Of course, we all look forward to when the child can choose for themself.
